Head of Mid-Office Operations for a Private Investment Firm

The Client Need
As part of a comprehensive upgrade of its operating infrastructure, a 7 billion dollar asset management firm needed to hire a new head of mid-office operations. While operating experience was important, the client was especially concerned with finding a good fit for its intellectually driven, collegial culture. Rather than rounding up the usual Wall Street suspects, the firm wanted SEBA to bring in someone from a less conventional background—but still able to hit the ground running on the job.

To improve its hedging capabilities, a monoline insurer needed an executive who could not only work effectively with reinsurance companies, but also understood other capital markets and instruments that could help balance its risk.

SEBA’s search led to the treasury department of GM, where we identified a brilliant executive with strong skills in global structured finance. Not only did he fill our client’s immediate need; he was promoted twice within two years, and now reports directly to the Treasurer of the company.
